What's in my Makeup Bag

10 Oct 2015

Hi, Everyone! Today, I thought it would be fun to share what I've been keeping in my makeup bag! I've been getting a lot of use out of it recently because having everything in one convenient spot has totally sped up my morning routine. Thankfully my classes aren't overly early but if given the chance to dig through my makeup storage drawers, you better be giving me two hours because I'm going to want to wear everything I see.

The bag that I've been using is one that I got from Clinique last year during one of their sales. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it because it's just so girly and bright. Plus print has all the things I love about beauty so you can't go wrong there. Size wise, it's perfect! As you can tell from the picture, I tend to over pack my makeup because I like to have options... Logic right? Do I use all of it every morning? Nope.. But do I need it? Hell yes.

Makeup hoarder or not, everything pictured fits into it pretty comfortably so, fortunately, nobody has to sit on it to zip it closed (Yet).
In general, most of the products that have been my bag tend to stay in there, and as you can see from some of the pictures, these products are mainly ones that I have been loving. However, I'm staying faithful to my goal of trying not to waste things in my collection so I try to switch things up every week. I'll link my other posts below so that you can read my reviews of many of the products pictured. Now let's see what I've been hoarding:

Posts mentioning some of these products:

I also wanted to say that I gave my blog a little updating over the weekend to freshen things up so my apologies for any issues it may have been giving people. Another major change that happened this weekend was the small but mighty change from .blogspot.com to my own thatluckieone.com! I'm no blogger wizard so it might have taken a little long then it needed but I'm happy with the change and excited to keep going with my blogging experience :) What do you think?

Do you have any of these products in your makeup bag? What else do you keep in there? Let me know in the comments :)

September Beauty Finds

28 Sep 2015

Happy Autumn, Everyone! Although I'm forever wishing that it was still summer so that I could be on vacation mode, I have been impressed with what fall has brought so far. It's not my favorite season but I'm pretty excited for sweater weather, pretty colored leaves, and everything else that is warm and cozy!

September has been a crazy month of moving into a residence and settling down for my final year of university. It feels so strange thinking that I'll be walking across yet another stage so soon because it feels like I was just graduating high school. I guess it's true what they say about time flying when you're having fun... Except the  fun is mainly homework and homework is awful but you catch my drift. Somewhere among the madness, I have found a little time to sneak away and pick up some beauty products that I have been quite obsessed with this month! Most of these are random finds from the drugstore with the exception of a splurge that was just calling my name.. I'll find my self-control eventually.

1. Maybelline Better Skin Concealer in Ivory: I was waiting all summer for this line to finally come to Canada and they teased us for quite awhile with the coming soon signs. I heard so many great things about both the concealer and the foundation so as soon as I saw this concealer I snatched it up. I'm so glad that I did because it's been wonderful! It has the perfect coverage for under the eyes because it's not heavy but still gives that extra brightness.

2. Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara in Black: I've never used an Essence mascara that I haven't liked and this is no exception. This mascara makes my eyelashes so long and defined but never clumpy or spidery because that look ain't cute. Wanna know the best thing about it? It's FOUR dollars! Amazing quality makeup at that price makes my wallet and my eyelashes happy.

3. Maybelline Creamy Beige Leather Effect Color Tattoo (24H Cream Eyeshadow): I saw this in a blog post written by Gemma and fell in love with the color. I have two of the original shades in Bad to the Bronze and Barely Branded which have great pigmentation and shine. This one, however, is matte with a little less pigmentation than I would like but I still love the color! It works well for an all over wash of color on the lids for days where I want a little less intensity but also for a base when I want more intense neutral looks.

4. M.A.C Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation in NW 20: This is my second MAC purchase and my first high-end foundation but I have no regrets about the price. My skin is very dry as I have talked about in previous posts and I have troubling finding a foundation that won't emphasize my skin but give it the extra moisture it needs. I also have very warm undertones for a pale person making it even harder to find what I need. This, however, is the perfect solution to my problems! It's the perfect shade for my palest of skins and keeps my skin hydrated all day. I love how bright and naturally radiant this leaves my skin without looking too oily. I've never had a foundation that left my skin looking this dewy so I've been so obsessed with it. Plus the bottle design is so aesthetically pleasing if that makes sense. I love that you can just slide the cap to the side for transport instead of worrying about keeping a lid clean and tidy!

5. Essence Long Lasting Lip Stick in Cool Nude: It was inevitable that I would mention yet another Essence product because I love their products so darn much. I look at the Essence display every time that I go into Shoppers to see if there is anything new and have never noticed this shade before so I'm thinking it's part of their limited editions. Somebody had just thrown it into a random display in the cosmetics aisle or else I would have never seen it but I'm glad they did because I love it. Most nude lippies tend to be too pale and wash me out but this is more pink based so it compliments my skin tone very well!

I'm so excited to finally work out a schedule for my school work that allows me to have the time to get back into my blog posts because I missed writing them so much! My next few posts will hopefully be about my dorm room as well as some organizational tips so look out for those in the next few days!

Have you tried out any new products this month? I always love getting recommendation for new products so leave them in the comments below!

August Favorites

28 Aug 2015

Can you believe that August is over in just a few more days? It feels like yesterday that it was the baffled at how it was the first of the month, and now I'm impatiently counting down the days for the move back to my university. Call me a nerd but I'm so excited to kick start my final year of my undergrad and get back to that big city life! I'm sad to see it go because I've been enjoying all the adventures I've had like the one in the picture above from this weekend. However September has all kinds of awesome promises so I know my August blues won't stick around for too long!

I'm usually a stickler when it comes to staying with the same products but since the recent overhaul of my makeup storage, I've discovered some pretty great things in my collection! If you're curious to my new setup then definitely check out that post, here.Without any other ramblings, here are some miscellaneous things that I have been loving this month!

1. Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette: This is something completely new to me as I've never owned anything this high end before but was it ever worth it. This palette is what I have been missing in my collection because of its versatility. You can create endless looks with this little gem and I'm so pleased with it. I've got a lot of experimentation left to do because I've only had it for a few weeks but so far I've been loving Sidecar, Hustle, and Buck! I'm always looking for color combination suggestions if you want to leave them in the comments below.

2. BH Cosmetic's It's Judy Time Eyeshadow Palette: This was limited edition last year during a sale that BH Cosmetics so sadly I don't think you can purchase it anymore, but this has been my go to beauty favorite since I received it. It has a stunning mixture of neutrals and blues/purples that compliment each other extremely well. Just like the Naked palette, you can get a lot of looks from these twelve eyeshadows and I couldn't be happier with this product. I even have a backup just in case I ever run out.

3. The Body Shop Coconut Beautifying Oil: Versatility is obviously a reoccurring theme because this is also a catch-all product. As the bottle says, you can apply this oil to the hair, face and body and I used it for all three. I wouldn't say that it's a holy grail hair product because my hair was very greasy after using this but I love it as a body and face oil! I just use a very minimal amount all over and it leaves my skin smelling super yummy and very soft.  I think that this is the perfect summer scent for a long day in the warm summer sun.

4. Mac Pro Long Wear Concealer in NC 15: I believe I've mentioned this in another post of mine but this stuff is fantastic! It was my first ever purchase at Mac but it's worth every penny. I've had no issues with it coming off on even the hottest of days and it keeps me looking well rested all day long! I've heard that it can be drying but I haven't had any issues with that.

5. Bath and Body Work's Wild Madagascar Vanilla Perfume: This tiny but mighty perfume is my holy grail scent all year round but it's definitely been used a lot this month. It's the perfect vanilla scent that isn't too fake but too musky smelling and it lingers for such a long time. I believe that you can purchase bigger sizes but it's very scented so a little has lasted me forever.

6. Hard Candy Glamoflage Concealer: I used this concealer a few years ago but found the product to expire before I was able to finish it. When back to school shopping however I saw this little dollar tube and had to get it! I've heard this to be a dupe for the Kat Von De Tattoo Concealer and I have never tried that one, but I can see why it might be. It's a very thick consistency so only a little is needed or else it will settle into fine lines and cake up on the face. I have it in the shade Ultra Light and it's the perfect brightening concealer if I'm feeling a little dark under the eyes. I've worn this in 90 degree weather and it held strong so I defintely recommend this. You can't beat a few dollars for such an amazing product either.

7. Australian Gold SPF 15 Broad Spectrum UVA Sunscreen: You should try saying that ten times fast. I hate everything about sunscreen and working at a daycare over the summer, I saw quite a lot of it. However this stuff is amazing and totally changes what sunscreen is. It has a very tropical scent instead of that typical sunscreen smell and it reminds me of being on a soft sandy beach with a fruity drink in my hand. (That's never happened but a girl can dream :P) It's not sticky but rather moisturizing which I was also pleasantly surprised about. It also has bronzer in it to make the skin darker which is a bonus for pale people like me who are just trying to get a little sun.

8. Revlon ColorStay Foundation in 150 Buff: This is also an old favorite that has recently snuck it's way into my collection again. I love this because it doesn't budge and gives amazing coverage with just a small amount of coverage. It's great for days that I want a little more but hasn't melted off my face or caked up in the heat. I hardly ever have to set this because it's just so great on it's own. The only downside was that it's slightly off for my summer shade but the next is too dark. I've been mixing with a little Fit Me foundation to solve this problem and it has been wonderful!

9. ELF Blush in Twinkle Pink: I've been wearing this a lot lately but I'm very iffy on it. The color is perfect for bringing a little bit of color back into my face after foundation but it's got a lot of gold shimmer that I'm not used to. I could just be paranoid because I've always worn more matte colors but I added to my favorites anyways because the color is so nice.

10.  ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder: Although these aren't my all time favorite blush and bronzers, I've been using this a lot lately as they compliment each other very well! The blush is slightly more subdued than the previous elf blush I mentioned but is still equally as gorgeous! I think I like it a little more just because I feel less like a walking disco ball. The bronzer however is a little to dark and I haven't been wearing it quite as much. I just make sure it's very blended on days that I've used it or else I have lines that aren't cute. I've heard that it's a dupe for a Nars product that I haven't tried but I thought that it was pretty neat!

11. My last favorite is my temples that I got a few days ago but I'm still counting. My glasses are only for reading so I don't need them all the time but they make everything twice as fun now. I love the pop of color that they give! Perhaps I'll be more motivated to study now :P (Probably not)

Bonus favorite- Rhiley the Standard Poodle: This little guy came into my family at the beginning of the month and I can't get over how cute he is. He's the biggest ball of ungracefulness when it come to playing around but he makes up for it in the fluff department. Right now we  have a love/hate relationship because he's only 11 weeks and thinks that nipping is how you play. Now I don't enjoy having my toes and fingers bitten so he's a work in progress to say the least. (Let's be honest.. I'm still a cat person) I'm sad to leave him next week because when I come back he won't be so little but I've been enjoying all the time that I do get to spend with him. (Pop bottles and squeaky toys are how we roll) His current favorite thing to do is terrorize the cats and eat all their food and give sass in the form of barks so that had been so much fun for everyone!

What have you been enjoying this month? Any awesome plans for September? Let me know in the comments below and as always.. Thanks for reading :)

Updated Makeup Storage & Birthday Surprises

18 Aug 2015

Hi, Everyone! My life has been absolutely crazy lately with my summer classes and job finally coming to an end but now that I have my homework and tests pretty much out the way, it's back to regular posting! This past weekend was full of wonderful things so I thought I would share two things that made the happiest/excited. This post is picture heavy so I hope you enjoy :)

First an overhaul of my makeup storage from this:

To this:

One of the things I've been the most excited over all summer was creating a new storage system for my makeup! When it comes to organization, I've always tried to keep things as simple as possible. Mainly because I hate cleaning it up (#lazy), but also because there is such little space in a dorm to have a "permanent solution". My current set up has become unpractical for the size of my collection, and because I have no self-control, it just keeps getting worse. I've been using two of the small three drawer containers from the Dollar store which I have no complaints about, it's just too darn small. I'll be keeping my current set up for more of my reached for products so that my morning routine is a little easier. With my forgetfulness, the more my makeup is out of sight, the more it's out of mind and collecting dust and being wasted so hopefully I will be reaching for everything a lot more and won't have so many disorganized baskets and shelves.

I had this plain wooden box kicking around in my closet for the past three years and when I was going through my closet, I had the most brilliant idea to turn it into something useful! My boyfriend, my two younger sisters and I had a little bonding session as I called it, (I'm sure they probably felt otherwise) to paint this gem up and I couldn't be happier with it! I was worried at first about the paint because it was the cheaper options at Michael's, however, it did not let me down! We went with two coats of each color and I still have a lot of paint left in the bottles. We technically could have gone with just one coat of paint but two looks much more vibrant! Acrylic paint dries very quickly making this project quick and easy! The only hard thing about this project was honestly picking out the paint because there were 1000 colours and I'm the worst for making decisions and changing my mind after.

Now bear with me because these are a disorganized mess right now as I'm getting ready to move back to a residence but you get the gist. I'm looking around for those in drawer organizers but I haven't had any luck so far. If you know where I might be able to find them then let me know in the comments! I've got the first drawer as a place to put my face products. I don't think this will need the organizers because this isn't my most hoarded of categories. The second and third drawers are chaotic because as you can see, I love my eyeshadow and lipsticks. I promise that once I get the organizers, it won't look like a tornado went through it.

However the thing that made this weekend so special was the lovely gifts that my boyfriend gave me (Brownie points for you, sir!) Just look at how proud he looks! I'll give you a little background context so that you aren't completely lost. When I was a little girl, I was obsessed with the books and show Madeline. I'm sure it's familiar to many for being the show about the little french girl who owned the title of"small but mighty". I had a couple of dolls from this show but they all shared unfortunate fates. The first few I had taken a trip to the wildlife park in elementary school and somehow ended up being lunch for a horse. I don't know how this happened but I am still holding a grudge over whoever thought it was polite to feed the horse my Ms. Clavel and Pepito. The punch line to this story? The dolls were taken out of my backpack at least twice before I left the house that day, but that's what you get for not listening as my mom says. Right?

The most loved out of all these dolls was my Madeline doll that went everywhere with me growing up. My mom found her in a very small community where she was completing her education degree and tells me she was more excited than I was to find them.  I think the connection also comes from her being away to complete the degree while I stayed with my grandparents, so she held some pretty special memories. I tried not to pick favorites because I believed all my stuffed animals had feelings but she just won my heart. I'm still heartbroken over not being able to find her! To stop my rambling, My 21st birthday was a week ago and when I opened his gifts I nearly cried, except I was too excited if that makes sense. I definitely wasn't expecting any present as thoughtful as this! He even got me the live action movie and the complete collection of books to go with her! Without sounding too soppy, I'm feeling grateful to have such an amazing boyfriend. He's the best, period.

What have you been up to this weekend?

Brand Focus: Joe Fresh Beauty

9 Aug 2015

Hi Everyone! Today I thought I would share some mixed thoughts on a brand of cosmetics that I've been testing out! Now I've never tried anything from this brand before so it was completely unfamiliar but they always have a bright display and simplistic packaging in Superstore that is definitely eye catching. I can't pass up a good deal on a good day so when I noticed that all their cosmetics were 50% off, I was sold. I would have loved to buy a lot more but I practiced self-control and managed to leave the store with (only) three face products. I'm still working on control, Okay?

The first product that I picked up was just what they have labeled as "Primer", pretty vague I know. I think I was the most excited for was this because I don't currently own one. It's also the same size as the foundation so I figured I would get a pretty good length out of it as well. I really tried to like this product but sadly it just didn't work out for me. I like a primer to smooth out my face and feel nice but this just did nothing! It was a very runny white/clear consistency that felt like a moisturizer than anything else. The sad thing is that it didn't even moisturize and made my skin feel worse than if I had skipped it. Once I got it on my face I let it settle like I would any other primer but it contiuned to disappoint by doing nothing. I thought that maybe I was over thinking so I continued on with foundation but hen I went to blend everything in, I noticed that it would just come off in little dry crumbles. At first I thought it might have been the Joe Fresh foundation so I tried my normal foundations but the same crumbly mess happened each time. My skin isn't dry at the moment so I can't even blame it on that. I've never had this happen before and for it to happen to three different foundations that all work well normally sounds very suspicious to me! I'm thinking that maybe I got a bad batch or a failed reformulation because this was very disappointing. I even read some reviews that this was a wonderful product but I can't say anything is wonderful about a whole bunch of nothing. If anybody has suggestions for a good primer I could try then leave it in the comments as I'm always looking for new HG products.

The foundation on the other hand is fantastic! It's the perfect color match for my pale skin because it has yellow undertones. I struggle so much when I'm looking for a foundation because most end up too pink or too orange but funnily enough, this is almost too pale for my summer skin right now. It will be perfect for when I'm back to looking like Casper the Ghost so I'm saving it for then. I would say that it's a medium coverage as the product itself is quite heavy and thick. However, once it's on the skin and it's set with some powder, it feels very lightweight! I was pleasantly surprised about that because thick foundation usually ends up being cakey on me. I wore this out in the heat for quite a few hours during work and it definitely passed the melt-proof test! The only place that I noticed it starting to rub off was the bridge of my nose where my sunglasses sit but I'll gladly take that.

Now I'm not quite sure what they meant by "Color Adjusting" but this blush incredible! I knew the minute I saw this that I had to take it come because it is the perfect coral-y for pale skin. It comes off as very light pink in some lighting but I'm definitely not complaining. I feel like it gives me a very flushed look without making me look feverish or over done. The texture is very creamy and applies like a dream but I do have to say that a little goes a long way here. I find that the color is super intense and almost borderline neon if applied too much but I can easily blend it down if I went a little crazy. It has quite the impressive lasting power especially during the heat so for the little money I paid for this gem, it's so worth it! They have another shade that was more of a pink color if that interests you a little more but for now this is perfect for me. I also wanted to mention that I dropped this on the floor and it didn't even break so bonus points for being klutz proof!

Overall I'm very impressed by this line of cosmetics and I'm excited to try out some more of their products. I've heard some very good things about their lip products and now that they are 50% off, it's even more of a temptation :P I'll be here practicing self-control if anybody needs me!

Have you tried this brand before? If so, what do you recommend?

The Versatile Blogger Award

5 Aug 2015

Hello, everyone! I feel like I haven't written in ages. A few days ago I was nominated by the lovely Christine at Wandering Through Lifex for the Versatile Blogger Award! I've seen this going around on so, needless to say, I was pretty excited to be nominated myself. Thank you so much, Christine! The object of this tag is to share seven facts about myself as well as nominate 15 other blogs that I think should be nominated.

Lists are my best friend but thinking on the spot is not so this could either be a hot mess or a total success. Let's get started, shall we?

1. Ever hear of the sentence "I'm not short, I'm fun-sized?" That's me. I stand all of 4'11 so it's safe to say I'm pretty tiny. I've been short all my life and it's definitely something I've learned to embrace as I've gotten older! There are plenty of bad things like not being able to reach things or not always having a petite section in a store but every negative needs a positive. (or at least, I think that's how it goes) My bank account loves how kids shoes are cheaper and raiding my little sister's closet will never get old.

2. I have Inattentive ADHD and learning difficulties. It was a huge relief to finally have all theses diagnoses in my second year of university because it finally meant that I had answers! Growing up without official diagnoses was pretty rough. It would be so frustrating not understanding my school work, or not being able to remember things but now I know it's not my fault. I once had somebody tell me that I wasn't smart enough to be in university and that was devastating for me at the time. Now all her words do is motivate me to do my best because I work hard for my grades and I am pretty damn proud. I've got quite a lot of coping skills when it comes to dealing with all this in university so I plan on doing a post as school gets closer.

3. My favorite book and movie are The Fault in Our Stars. I'm sure everybody and their mom's has heard of this book (and if not then you have been living under a rock.) This book ruined me and my summer when I first read it but I do not regret it in the slightest. When I finished the book had enough tears to fill an ocean and my wall had an impressive dent. I just love how romantic it was and I will never get tired of the story line. I've read and watched this little gem so many times that it's permanently ingrained in my brain and that's pretty impressive considering I have a goldfish brain.

4.  I love anything salt and vinegar. I don't think there hasn't been something in this flavor that I haven't liked. I'm going to say that this is my biggest weakness because it just tastes so good. Salt and vinegar popcorn just completes any movie or tv show experience. I also shamelessly love anything covered in vinegar. Nothing

5. I hate being ticked. This is especially true for my feet! It should be a written rule and a signed contract that if you try to touch them, you will be getting kicked. I don't know where you will get kicked but I know that I won't be sorry. As Taylor Swift says "Don't say I didn't warn ya" ;)

6. I'm working to become bi-lingual! I started learning french when I was put into french immersion in grade four and worked my way through it until the end of junior high. I never went back to it after then until I started university and made it my minor. There are so many rules to remember but I just love the language so much. Although my spoken french isn't on par yet, my understanding has always been very good. I'm hoping to get my certificate when I graduate university and move to education to become an elementary school teacher.

7. I have a love and hate relationship with the right side of my hair. This side of my hair is always the first to lose it's style no matter what. It doesn't matter if it's been straightened or curled or sprayed with ten pounds of hair spray. It has a mind of its own and at the end of the day, it always wins the fight. I love a good hair day as much as the next girl but this side gives me a run for my money, literally.

Alright, now onto my list of blogs that I would like to nominate! This stressed me just a tad because I've been reading so many good blogs that it was hard to choose! Here is what I came up with, though:

1. Muted Mornings
2. Unstitchedd
3. CarrieBrighton
4. Holy Lipstick
5. The Closet Elf
6. Erin and Katherine Talk Beauty
7. A Girl, Obsessed
8. Charlotte Sophia Roberts
9. That's Like Lisa
10. Tracey Dean
11. That Fashion Girl
12. Vivianna Does Makeup
13. In The Frow
14. Smart-Twenties
15. Sunny Sweet Pea

Fine/Oily Hair Care Routine

27 Jul 2015

I love myself a good hair day just as much as the next girl does but boy do I hate doing it. Hair is usually the last thing I do in my morning routine and it's very minimalistic. (It's also because I'm lazy but I'm leaving that part out). I was blessed with the baby fine and lifeless hair that is usually very dry and frizzy but also extremely oily. I'm the girl that can say I have 99 problems and they are all my hair, okay? I'm not a hair expert nor will I ever be but these are just tips and tricks and products I have found to work the best for me!

I'm one of those people who has to wash their hair every day so that's where my routine starts. I'm not overly picky with my shampoo brands because I switch frequently so as long as it says something about volume, moisture or damage control, it's good enough for me. As of lately I have been using the Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner and it has been lovely! It hasn't made by hair too greasy but makes everything manageable and smooth and that smell, though. It makes me want to live at a beach but real life says otherwise. Once or twice a week I like to give my hair a really good deep condition to try and counteract the heat I use on my hair. Let's just say it works that way, okay? I usually use the L'Oreal Arginine Resist One Minute Conditioning Mask (Try saying that three times fast) which is pretty good. The only thing I haven't enjoyed is the smell but you don't notice it once your hair is dry so Beauty is Pain right? I've also been using the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner and I seriously love this stuff! It's been years since I've seen it in stores so you can imagine my excitement when I found it at Superstore! There might have been a happy dance in the aisle. There also might have been an embarrassed little sister who almost left me but it gave her a good laugh! The smell matches the Moist Shampoo line so I'm a happy woman when I use them together.

When I get out of the shower, I throw my hair up in a towel for ten minutes to get any extra water out and take it out when I finish my makeup. I start out with the Tresemme Keratin Smooth Serum, which is hands down the best thing that has ever been put into my hair. It makes everything so soft and smooth BUT doesn't make my hair oily! This has been a reoccurring problem with most serums I have bought and had to con off on family members or roommates when they didn't work. I can also use this on dry hair and have had no oiliness so that's a bonus! After I just use a little bit of the Tresemme Platinum Strength Heat Spray and I'm ready to blow dry. You can add this to dry hair if your worried but it's too much for my hair so I skip it.

Sometimes if I want a little more volume I'll use the Paul Mitchell Styling Extra-Body Daily Boost Root Lifter Spray. Be warned that this can get very sticky, though. I only spray it twice and then massage it in for the best results and if you feel like using more, you can go from there. This gives my hair just the right amount life and volume and quickly became a staple product.

I don't do anything fancy with my styling so I won't bore you with those details much. I just tend to blow dry my hair either upside down or in the opposite direction that it usually lays and then give it a quick straighten.

Some extra little tips and tricks when it comes to fine or oily hair:

1. Less is more- When it comes to fine or oily hair, the less product you put on your hair is often more than enough! Think of this idea like a freshly washed car. Do you really want to go through mud puddles after you put the effort to clean it? Probably not...but you do you boo boo. Try limiting your hair routine to a couple of really good products and you'll really see a difference.

2. Dry Shampoo is your BFF- There will be days where you wake up late and have no time to wash your hair. There will also be days where you just don't want to wash it, let's face it. Investing in a good dry shampoo to boost your confidence and make your hair look better makes the world of difference! I've found great luck with both Batiste Dry Shampoo as well as Got2B Rockin' It Encore Dry Shampoo so definitely check those out if you out if you're in the market for a new one. The matching dry conditioner is great for extra frizz and shine after you finish styling! If you have especially oily hair try putting some in your hair before bed to let it really soak in and give you extra volume! This will save you a little extra time trying to work in the product in the morning.

3. Don't be afraid to try new things! - Hair care is often an area left unexplored but it's actually encouraged! How else are you going to find that next holy grail product? Girl, I don't even want to know how much money I've spent on products that haven't worked out so if you're worried about here is a tip: Check sites like Makeup Alley for reviews before you purchase! This way you can get the general census for a product before you commit.

4. Invest in a good hairspray- Fine hair doesn't tend to hold the style for more than a few hours so finding a good hairspray will make your life so much easier. I really like the Pantene Smooth Humidity Proof Hairspray because it gives great hold but doesn't make your hair sticky or crunchy! Plus it smells pretty good. Humidity can also ruin your style so this hairspray has you covered as well. Quick tip- Hairspray also can make things like clips and pins grip your hair better! Just spray before or after you get them into place and you should be good to go!

This is what my hair usually looks like when everything is said and done! Not too bad, eh?

My Summer Reading List

22 Jul 2015

I know I'm a little late on the summer reading train but with just over a month left to my summer break, I figured why not! I love reading what other people have been reading so today I'm going to share the list that I have been working through over the past few months. But before I get to that I would like to share a little story from the past that inspires me to keep reading even after all this time.

Reading has always played a huge role in my life, even from a young age. One might blame this on my mom, a teacher who loved books but one of my most favorite memories of my childhood was the Summer Reading Program that my local library put on throughout the summer. It's funny to think that my twin sister and I were more excited to do this over any other "normal" summer activities. The program also came with the promise of prizes and cake at the end of the summer, which I'm thinking was also a motivating factor in wanting to read. Free things!! What I find so interesting is that even at this age, I loved being able to escape reality and get lost in a great book. Call me a nerd but my favorite days were the ones where I got to return all of the books I had read and spend the afternoon looking for new ones. It's safe to say that I was well read at twelve years old.

Now that I'm in university reading purely for pleasure has become a bit of a foreign concept. I admit to trying to read the odd book in the bath without trying to drop it into the bubbles. However on the usual school day, I'm too busy drowning in homework to even think about reading anything else! When my school work calms down and summer break finally rolls around, the promise of more freedom to curl up and read more books sounds wonderful! The sun, a warm breeze, a cold drink and a great book? to quote Amy Poehler... Yes Please!

Pinterest has been my outlet for finding so many great recommendations, so I have compiled a small list of books that I want to read before summer comes to a close! I actually had to limit myself or else I wouldn't get anything done. I keep all my book pins on a board which you can check out here if you are interesting in finding some recommendations for your own summer reading lists! I'm guilty of getting ahead of myself so I've already started three out of four on my list and have zero complaints so far!

The first book that I'm excited to read is An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. It's been on my mental reading list for ages now so I figured I give it a try this summer. I'm a huge fan of John Green with The Fault in Our Stars being my all time favorite book. It's supposed to be very good so I'm looking forward finishing it! I'm about halfway through right now and love John's writing style so it's been a pleasure to read!

Second on my list is The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. I hadn't heard of this author before until it was mentioned on a blog written by somebody who attends my university. His whole post was very uplifting and definitely inspired me to pick up my own copy. I haven't gotten too far into the book but so far I've been hooked. I love that it's inspirational in the best of ways but never cheesy like some of those types of books can be. It's relatable, humorous and bound to leave a lasting smile on your face! I've been waiting for a spare moment to be able to sit down and start this book so being able to check it off my list will be wonderful!

I've also gotten half way through my third choice, The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan. I've really been liking this pick! It's similar to the story of William and Kate if anybody is familiar but has twists and changes along the way to make it unique. I quickly fell in love with all the characters in chapter one, so much that I can't put this book down for the life of me. Its plotline has been humorous so far and I'm looking forward to seeing what else will happen as I keep reading.

The last book that I'm hoping to read before school gets started again is Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave. This one was really popular when I was doing some research on books to read. I admit that one of the factors in choosing this book was how gorgeous the cover art was. Before you start throwing rotten things at me, I know that you're not supposed to do this but I'm guilty of loving books that are visually appealing. Of course, I take into account the story line when picking books out to read but I can't resist a good cover. I don't know too much about the story line but from what I read, it sounds very lovely!
